The first week went smoothly. Life settled into a sweet routine for Sienna.
Wake up. Go to school. Come home. And every night, hold the mirror close to her face, staring a little longer than necessary⌠admiring herself.
The girl who had given Sienna the mirror was long gone, not absent or transferredâŚ.just gone! , as if she never attended the school, as if she never existed.
No one questioned it. No one remembered.
A week later
âUgh, thankfully my project went well, an afternoon nap is well deservedâŚand maybe a pizza later.â Sienna laid down in her bed, briefly closing her eyes and resting.
But soon she bolted awake, her eyes slowly scanning the room, searching for the mirror.
She opened her cupboard, it wasn't there , her vanity table, study deskâŚsame, wasn't there.
âTch I told mom to not touch my stuffâ, she wasn't happy about it, frustration started to pile up in her, she pulled out the box underneath her bed, it was filled with old memories like small presents from friends, birthday cards, photo dumps. She looked through anxiously and finally she found the mirror.
âThere you areâ
Her lips titled into a satisfied smile, but vanished immediately when she looked into her reflection.
A faint line curved beside her mouth.
A smile line.
Her breath caught.
âW-what is happeningâŚ?â she whispered, her fingers trembling as they brushed against her skin. âWhere did this come from?â
She dropped the mirror onto her bed and tried to calm by taking a deep breath in and out.
But it wasn't working.
âMaybe it's sleep deprivation from this week, I must be overthinkingâ, she tried convincing herself that her eyes were just deceiving her, and that she was still the definition of perfect.
She held the mirror again and stared at the lines, she scanned every feature on her face , hoping there will be nothing else that will frustrate her.
But the next day she was in for another shock Few visible strands of her hair were pure white.
âhow could this be, it wasn't like this yesterdayâ
Anxiety builded up more, why was this happening to her?
As days went by, She refused to step out of her room, her parents banging on her door, yelling for her to go back to school, but she just sat in the corner next to a wardrobe, and still continued to look into the mirror like a madman.
Eyes were moist and red, dark circles appeared, more white strands appeared and so did the wrinkles, but her eyes never took off her reflection in the mirror, like it didn't want her to stop looking.
Her youthful essence faded, she started to age even older than her grandmother. But she couldnât stop it âŚshe had no other choice but to watch herself being ruined.
Five days later
âSIENNA COME OUT OF YOUR ROOM THIS INSTANTâ
Sienna's father had enough of his daughter hiding in her room. Her teacher called, friends called ,but no sign of her, but now she had to come out of her room. After a few attempts, he bashed Sienna's door open. Her father opened his mouth to give a lecture, but when his eyes landed on his daughter, the oxygen was stuck in his throat, the colour drained from his skin.
Sienna lay lifeless on the floor, every single strand of her hair was white, not a single brown was visible, her face and hand age tremendously.
âS-sienna? Baby you okay?â He ran to his daughter and clutched onto her, now seeing a clear view of her face, he could only be horrified, she was decaying, her jaw was breaking apart, her eyes no longer had any colour, just white cornea.
The mirror that Sienna held possessively in the last few days was now broken into pieces, the glow dimmed away and now it was covered in dust, as it had fulfilled its role.
Somewhere else
The girl gazed into the vintage hand mirror with pure glee, caressing her smooth skin, playing with her now dark brown hair , the youth she had stolen having the mirror bound to her own, from a girl who no longer lived.
â tch how sad for Sienna, how I wish I could tell herâŚit was nothing personalâ, the word's curled of her tongue in mockery, as she laughed loud with energy, twirling around in her room with glee, her computer screen lit up to a new school website, hinting that she has begun hunting her new victim.
Beyond her, countless of vintage mirrors filled the room, each one detaining a restless soul. Pale figures suffered behind the glass, reaching desperately for a freedom they could no longer remember. Each mirror carried the ruins of stolen youths, and there were far too many to tell that this has been going for a very long time.
